Kintore Flood Study

Welcome Kintore Flood Study website!

This site is dedicated to inform you of the main steps currently being undertaken as part of this flood study. Here, you can find updates on the development  of the study, track our progress, and share your thoughts and feedback. We aim to keep the website updated regularly with all the important project news, so you can stay informed about our efforts.

A flood study is an important process that helps us understand how and why flooding happens in a specific area. The main goal of a flood study is to reduce the risk of flooding for homes, businesses, and transport links. This means looking at past flood events, predicting future ones, and finding ways to prevent or reduce their impact.

By conducting a flood study, we can prepare better for the effects of climate change, which is expected to increase the frequency and severity of floods. The study also helps us improve local areas, such as green spaces, making them more enjoyable for people and better for nature and wildlife. This way, we can create a safer, more resilient community that can handle future flood risks more effectively.

Your participation and feedback are crucial in this process, as they provide valuable insights that help us make informed decisions and propose effective solutions to mitigate flood risks in our area.

High water levels in River Don at Kintore

POTENTIALLY VULNERABLE AREA

Why a Flood Study?

Kintore is designated as a potentially vulnerable area (PVA 02/06/13) due to river and surface water flooding. Recent flooding occurred due to river flooding.
There is 1 target area in this potentially vulnerable area, which has been the focus of further assessment, this is identified below. Further information on the objectives and actions to manage flood risk within this area is provided below.

Objectives:

  • Avoid flood risk: Avoid inappropriate development that increases flood risk in Kintore.

  • Prepare for flooding: Prepare for current flood risk and future flooding as a result of climate change in Kintore.

  • Reduce flood risk: Reduce the risk of flooding from the River Don and surface water in Kintore.
